My Experience
My professional trajectory began from my departure from university education which happened after my 2 years mandatory military service. I read Materials Engineering in Nanyang Technological University(NTU), Singapore. I took my education and career into my own hands and by age 26, I had ascended to a leadership position, orchestrating the efforts of a diverse team in the largest local Singaporean bank also dubbed “Best Bank in the World”.
This rapid progression saw me attain the role of Head by the age of 26, where I was entrusted with the oversight of over 20 professionals across both international and local spheres in Singapore. My career milestones continued to evolve, as I was appointed Vice President and Group Lead Architect within a large banking institution and conglomerate composed of retail banking to private banking, trading & insurance.
In this capacity, I was instrumental in formulating and executing the strategic direction for the group’s Data & AI solutions. My responsibilities encompassed leading AI/ML architectural initiatives, supervising projects that spanned the institution's extensive network of over tens of thousands of employees and hundreds of data specialists dedicated to advancing our data platform and AI projects.
Despite these accomplishments, I reached a juncture where I reevaluated the intrinsic value of corporate employment and its financial rewards. My reflections led me to the conclusion that the conventional corporate trajectory, regardless of its profitability for the company, did not align with my personal financial aspirations and professional fulfillment.
I am no longer interested in trading my time for money, but rather my knowledge and skills in exchange for performance-based rewards.
What’s Next?
After some thought, I decided that the monetary compensation of simply a salary is not what I am after.
Due in part to having become more financially stable, independent and possessing multiple sources of capital appreciation.
Should an opportunity arise for me to engage as a partner or executive, rather than in a traditional employee capacity, I would be keenly interested. Such a position, where I could directly partake in the rewards, profits, and shares of the enterprise, aligns more closely with my professional aspirations and personal criteria for success.
This model of engagement not only offers a more equitable stake in the outcome of the business but also resonates with my entrepreneurial spirit and my desire to contribute to and directly benefit from the company's growth and success.
